One of your best girlfriends has asked you to be a bridesmaid in her wedding… and of course you accepted! If you’ve never been a bridesmaid before though, you might be wondering, “What’s next?” Here are some Bridesmaid Etiquette tips for you to read from our main website on the San Diego Wedding Insider. Check them out below and read the full article here and get more bridesmaids tips from our Bridesmaid 101 section.

One of the most important things you should do as a bridesmaid, if you only do this one thing, is give Moral Support. This day can be very stressful and overwhelming so when you see the Bride feeling down, or feeling like there’s too much on her plate, just let her know that you are there to help in any way she needs. Give her the emotional support she needs by putting on a good face and feeling confident that everything will be ok.
Planning the Bridal Shower is probably the first task you’ll have to accomplish as a Bridesmaid. If you’re the Maid of Honor, you’ll have to take control of the planning so make sure you delegate to your fellow Bridesmaids so everyone feels involved and it turns out to be a smoothly planned event. Choose a fun theme for the party to make things creative and festive. When making up the guest list, consult with the Bride to make sure you’re not leaving anyone out of the fun. Another important task to accomplish during the Bridal Shower is to make a gift list so when it comes time to send out the Thank You cards, the Bride knows who gave her what.

As the Maid of Honor you probably think that giving the obligatory speech is the most dreadful part of the whole night, but armed with the following tips you’ll be the most articulate and classy ’speech-giver’ a bride has every seen.
{1} Before writing your Maid of Honor speech think of a theme that reflects both the bride and the groom. For example, do they both like food? compare them to a favorite dish or particular food item. This will keep your speech focused and on track.
{2} Make sure to start writing your Maid of Honor speech a month in advance, this will give you sufficient time to read and re-read it and make changes if needed. If necessary, read your Maid of Honor speech to your fellow bridesmaids and have them give their input
{3} Remember to wish for great things to come, good fortune. Don’t just go on about the college years and all the great parties you went to. Ask family members and other friends about plans they know the newlyweds may have and incorporate those plans into your sentiments.
{1} Although everyone’s eyes are on you don’t be to conscience about what they might be thinking. Take a deep breath, take a small drink, of water preferrably, and clear your throat. It is important that you speak clearly and in a tone everyone can understand.
{2} Have a sense of humor and don’t be too strict and serious as you are talking. If you forget a particular word or sentence you had planned on stating, just go with the flow and be in the moment…say what you feel.
{3} Finally, have fun and keep it short & sweet. Remember that you are celebrating the newlyweds’ big day. Raise your glass and wish for them to have a fabulous life together!
